Does election result matter to the fascists?

Radhakanta Barik

Election result to Delhi assembly and crushing defeat of the BJP created ripples of joys in my heart till yesterday I went to JNU. After the defeat in the assembly the BJP has created real attacks on JNU teachers union. That was what fascism functions while attacking the trade unions of workers, teachers and students and kisans. These are real democratic institutions working at the grass roots level which are getting attacks in Modi-2. This is what Hitler did in Germany. While getting elected one thing and implementing the real agenda of fascism is coming out now. We must give a serious thinking to these fascists who attacking these democratic institutions.

Visiting the JNU after a long gap I feel amazed to see a lively place has turned into a dead place. No giggling sound of young people coming from anywhere. No debate or no discussion over national and international issues. No posters carrying popular messages for people of India. I always look for the best posters here as students here are too alert that makes them posters with good slogans and good cartoons or good paintings. Students are sitting in coffee house but no discussion over national or international issues. In our time as a student we went to the street on many international issues such as Vietnam day. It was evening we marched from university campus to the center of city where the Embassy office was there. Prof Amit Bhahduri and Pravat Patnaik were there. The day Castro came we were there to welcome him. Recently the world's known right wing leader from Brazil came but no protest and no posters against him. American President is coming but no anger or no poster. This university is losing its national and international importance. Yes students read a lot of books published by different scholars from different universities are available in the books stalls. I bought some of them. In one corner teachers are on protest as they have got a notice of closing the union office. I found the young teachers are highly agitated over the issue as this is their basic right to form a union. Campus carries a gloomy picture and sky looks bluish but students do not carry smiling faces which saddens me.

The Supreme Court has said that the criminals are dominating politics and the political parties have to inform the antecedents of the criminals in their websites and facebooks. At the same time Supreme Court is not taking any action against the ABVP goons who attacked the JNU. No FIR has been filed yet after 40 days. The Supreme Court is not taking any action against the police men who attacked the Jamia. The goons dared to enter into a leading women's college molested women students while shouting Jai Shri Ram. The Babri Masjid got destroyed by the goons led by Advani and Joshi but no action has been taken yet. The Supreme Court is failing in taking action against the government of Modi and Shah who are being allegedly involved in communal riots and Shah is allegedly involved in murder of Judge Loya case. The highest judiciary is not taking seriously the case against the abrogation of Art 370 and Kashmir people suffering from without internet for more than six months. Three leaders of Kashmir are under the NSA the draconian act of the state. No action against the CAA which is blatantly unconstitutional. It looks as if the Supreme Court is happy what is happening around them in Delhi and other places of the court.

Popular Hindi film song Dekhane Mein Bhola hai Bombay Se aiya hai by Suchitra Sen in Bombay ki Babu film can be placed in the context of political drama. Coming of Modi from Bombay via Ahmadabad to politics of India dominating Delhi as a Dekhane Mein Bhola but really as Bernard Shaw says is a scoundrel. Ashish Nandy made an interview with Modi as a young politician finds him as a thorough fascist. It is interesting to note here that fascists like Hitler has the same humble origin which he used to appeal the crowd for their support. He became a successful politician who killed a community Jews which amounted to be millions of people. In India Modi's real face has come up in his Modi-2 which is fascist in nature and there is nothing like Dekhane Mein Bhola Hai.  His real face is coming while enacting the law related to Constitutional Amendment which violates the basic structure of Indian constitution. They follow the laws according to the RSS without bothering Indian Constitution.

The BJP as reported in the HT the leading newspaper says that violent actions of their ministers and MPs have paid them in increasing their vote share. Public has had a different perception regarding the BJP as a nationalistic party does not hold now. They perceive it as the Bharatiya Jhaghada Party with their hate campaign fetched them 8-seats in Delhi Assembly. Love helped in AAP to fetch 63 seats. They used the language in South Delhi Constituency like Greater Kailash that Goli Chalega and Danda Chalega. It seems that nation will be getting ready to face the BJP for their violent activities for winning the election. Their nationalistic view is a false or fake like the party itself. Modi came to Parliament as a first timer who did puja while entering into the house. But parliament is the secular place where debates, discussions happen regarding issues affecting India. As a leader of the Treasury he was supposed to answer to the opposition by looking at data and facts but he is the first Prime Minister he gave only election speeches like a Mantra a priest recites without looking at the problems the temple suffer in terms of sanitation or health. This has been discussed by a greatest film maker Satyajit Ray in a film where he discusses these issues in an artistic manner. Lack of sanitation in the temple has spread a disease around the temple. He came with an agenda for destroying the parliamentary democracy which happened during his period. Most of the bills have not followed the parliamentary procedure as the first reading second reading and final reading. The day discussion held on the bill when the agenda of bill got circulated by which no proper discussion happened as the bill got passed. He as the leader of the treasury has reduced the parliament to non-discussing place which was his aim according to Hindutva who does not believe in democracy. Moreover, he transformed the non-finance bill into finance bill by which the upper house got ignored. It affected the legality of the bill and discussion further got harmed. He dared to bring a bill on citizenship which is against the Indian Constitution. He brought a Talaq bill to affect the position of minority guaranteed by the Art 25 to 28. He went to Gujarat as one day player which he played fifty overs and he came to reduce the parliament to 20 overs where black money with an empty stadium happened.

Despite the depressing political environment in India, Shaheen Bagh remains a bright spot in our present day struggle against fascism. Women protesters are creating history coming out of their homes and protesting in the street. They have worked out an imagined mapping of struggles. On dais there is a picture of national leaders. It is interesting to note here that there are two pictures of Nehru among all top national leaders such as Ambedkar and Azad and other leaders who have shaped the national movement and who played a decisive role in framing a Secular progressive constitution. There is a Preamble hanging in front of these leaders. Women are a highly disciplined lot and young women are speaking out and old and young people are speaking from the dais. It has created an electrifying atmosphere and an enlightened discourse. They are opposing CAA, NPR which are divisive in nature framed by the present government. It is interesting to note here that no speaker is abusing these leaders of the BJP. Leaders and artists from various fields such theatre, academia and film making and poets and writers are coming here regularly. For the first time film artists are coming here and speaking in favour of the protest. Three elderly leaders who have experienced the Indian national movement, partition and India’s Independence are leading the movement. They have been invited by Amit Shah, the Home Minister today to participate in a discussion. The man who spoke in the last assembly election that push the button in the EVM so strongly that the current would reach the Saheen Bagh. In reality current has reached the Home Minister he has invited them to participate in a dialogue. They are articulating their grievances why do they oppose the CAA and they have decided not to show their papers if NPR starts. There is a book stall behind the protest. The book stall is having books in Hindi and Urdu and English. Everybody is demanding a book on constitution. They are demanding the books by Gandhi and Nehru. These protesters are reading out loudly these books. It is a nonviolent political struggle for defending the Constitution. The food is being served by the Sikhs who stand for prosperity and sharing of whatever they have. There are paintings and observations hanging from the stair case. There is a memorial built in honour of these people who are having a united struggle. There are lists of people who have suffered in these struggles all over India specifically arrested by the police or died in the struggles. These are common people raising a voice against fascism in India. My salute to these brave elderly women who are raising the voice in a peaceful and disciplined manner.

The father of modern absurd drama Albee in his play Who is afraid of Virginia Woolf? tells a story of parents who discusses the issues related to their imaginary child till the end. But actually they do not have a child at all. The same thing happened in the discussions for twelve hours from 8AM to 8 PM. which ended on a note that Modi still remains the enigmatic figure which he pulled victory for 2019 general election. They calculated his political weight of Modi is around 18 percentage of votes. He did not campaign in the Delhi Assembly election as he preserved his eighteen percentage of votes It is an absurd play which centers around myth of Modi. That he has lost the election one after another media keeps his virginity that it is not used by the electorate. The BJP's hyper nationalism sponsored by Modi did not work which is the truth behind the play got acted well by the voters of Delhi by giving a defeat of Modi and BJP. Modi Shah created an imaginary war against Pakistan in Delhi by abusing a community including firing at the protesters. Despite their war phobia they have lost 63 seats out of 70 seats. Only 7 to BJP. Such a negative campaign by Modi Shah and the RSS have not produced the war phobia. Instead of war psychosis, people of Delhi took a sober calculated reading of the political situation like they manage their home economics with a high price rise in food stuff. They have defeated Modi Shah in a brutalized manner. This raises a question regarding the EVM in 2019 general election to Lok Sabha. Modi Shah spoke against Pakistan day out and day in but people of India voted them. The question is by seeing the voting behaviour of Delhi people one doubts the same people would have voted for 7 seats for the BJP. There is no doubt that in these constituencies there has been massive rigging of EVM in the last general election. The BJP would have won only one seat. There should be an investigation by a judge of the Supreme Court.

Around 9AM there was a noise in housing society where middle class live in combination of rent and pension. This class has captured these housing societies through their RSS network. The chowkidars of the society celebrated with a noise in the society in opposition to these small petty property owners. Deadly middle class in combination with traders and bankers are worried of the defeat of the Hindutva. These chowkidars are unhappy with the main chowkidar who is dosing at the time of his guarding the economy. The economy is being stolen by some industrialists without investing as Anil Ambani says that he is bankrupt in London court but Modi gave the Rafael deal to Ambani. The real chowkidars are unhappy with the main chowkidar. It is a victory of working people against Modi Shah terror regime.

While the former Finance Minister P Chidambaram spoke in Rajya Sabha on the budget with facts and figures the present Finance Minister Mrs. Nirmala was wearing a gloomy mood as if she was a poor student who did not know the answer. He raised a point that the economy is not in ICU as told Sanjay Subramaniam former economic advisor to Modi as it is on the way to ICU while incompetent doctors are supervising the patient. He gave a warning that the patient may die if it is treated by such incompetent people. Such sharp remarks came on the competence of the members of cabinet headed by Modi. This shows that the Hindutva people are incompetent and garrulous people who misuse religion for furthering their interest like the RSS chief Bhagwat is doing business.

It's interesting to note here that shopkeepers are in a gloomy mood today as they hear the news of the BJP loss in Delhi. The bankers are in a depression after knowing the loosing of the BJP. What is their relationship between shopkeepers and bankers? After loss of Vajpayee in 13 days government in 1993 the shopkeepers kept their shops closed. Loss of BJP has created a gloomy scene in Delhi market.

Politics of a society has a close association with the political economy of a society. Urbanisation and industrialization provide infrastructure in sustaining democracy. According to 2011 census urbanisation has reached around 50 percentages of people. They will not allow their caste or community identities over determine their political choice. Individuality and citizenship are very critical to play politics and taking an ideological preference. Modi and Shah do not understand these structural reasons behind the strength of Indian political democracy. They went for implementation of the RSS view of citizenship which is unsustainable and undemocratic. Today saving constitution has brought the crowd to the streets who are not ready to go back to their homes. it is reported that the major book which being sold now is Indian Constitution. Constitutional democracy is going to flourish despite a backward-looking Hindutva ideology.

Indian democracy faces a challenge from Money, Muscle and EVM and Election Commission. Under Modi Shah regime all these Ms create problems for political parties and voters and ordinary people. As in Future Shock by Alvin Toffler discusses the use of technology and it creates anxieties among people which are found true. The Election Commission uses the technology like EVM but the way last election has been conducted by the Election Commission of India creates anxieties among all. The Supreme Court has found the discrepancy in more than 300 constituencies and on public perception that their votes have been stolen by the ruling party. The notice has gone to EC but no result yet.

In Delhi election this fear psychosis of EVM has taken over the voters of Delhi and political parties. History is the cruelest discipline in social sciences. It is called the backbone of social sciences. History of India has got many kings and queens which ended in 1947 with its independence. A modern state needs an advance economy to survive otherwise it may collapse as most of the countries after the second world war declared Independent and democratic but collapsed soon after. India got the leaders of national movement at the helm of affairs to go for a planned economy. Under the leadership of Nehru India went for a planned economy with the combination of private capital and state capital. India turned into a modern economy. But it requires a precondition for going for Land Reforms which India implemented. That brings the difference between Pakistan and India. After forty years of Independence both countries went on evaluation of their model of governance and found the only difference is this that Pakistan has not undergone any land reforms. India went in 1990 for a controlled liberalization which resulted in a higher rate of growth. After almost two decades under Modi the economy is down and down to 4.5 percentage of growth which is the lowest so far in the last 15 years and experiencing a highest unemployment in India. This happened as Modi went for demonetization which reduced the growth by 2 percentages. Today social fabric is broken into pieces after the introduction of CAA. History will judge him as the bluff master of Modern India.
